Dear all,
Recently searching the Amazon archives for floristry books and came across Andy Goldsworthy's title 'WOOD'. This is a fabulous book that I have wanted to own for many months. I have managed to accquire a new copy for under £20. For a quick link to some floral inspiration, check out the 'I recommend' section on my blog. It is a safe direct link to Amazon.uk. I have only recommended books that I have either read cover to cover or own myself. Amazon has some great deals on floral books at present, check there quick so you dont miss out!!

RECYCLE, REUSE, REDUCE
I always have been keen on seeing the UK florists taking a lead in promoting the floral industry as one that isnt wasteful. As an industry, we have been subject to some terrible PR regarding our wastage and flower miles etc. Slowly things are getting better. Val Spicer, the floral foam company are developing biodegradable foams, leading UK florists such as Ian Lloyd promoting the use of biodegradable of cellophane and florist shops turning to green electricty to power their chiller units. At college, we discuss such issues and how as inidividuals we can reduce our impact in the environment but only til now have we actually put this into practice. Promoting the recycling theme, but allowing the flowers to do the talking for us. The task this week was to create a display from materials that have been or could be recycled. I chose tin cans wrapped in newspaper, and stacked into a tower. I teamed this very industrial looking structure with delicate spring flowers bursting with sunny colours. The texture contrast of the tins against the silky petals of the Rununculous and Tulips mini handtieds created impact. I was very proud of the overal design, however, the tins for stability need to be welded or perhaps hot glued together. RUBBISH CAN BE PRETTY!!!

Event Work Part 2
Wow!! Last night was hard work but such as fantastic insight into the event world! Didn't get home til 2am. So a little tired today. Lots of lifting, whizzing up and down stairs and carrying crates of flowers yesterday . . . Feel like Ive had a full work out at the gym. Below are some pictures of the arrangements that we installed. Thank you Simply Flowers for allowing me to accompany you to London to help set up the venues.
Dyed Willow, Set in White Sand. Vanda Orchids take centre stage.

Event Floristry . . . Its a Whole New Ball Game
I have today plunged into the unknown depths, the mysterious and magical world of . . . Event Floristry. Ok, ok a little dramatic but this event floristry lark really is a whole new ball game. The hours are long, ( not getting home til gone 1am long) and its a logistical nightmare to get from Huntingdon to London to set up arrangements for evening events, however, it is also proving to be immense fun and a strong learning curve. Ive spent the day working with the most exquisite Vanda Orchids, creating sculptural pieces out of black Aluminium wire and balancing the orchids through the tangled framework, set off by the square mirrored platform it all rests upon. Tomorrow is set up day. It will be lovely to see the arrangements in all their glory, taking centre stage in the middle of each dining table. Updates and Pictures to follow soon.
