Facebook

Whilst developing my blog has been a very interesting journey and something close to my heart, I felt that I would like to touch base with a larger audience. I have learnt a valuable lesson in regard to the importance of networking and this is where the social networking site Facebook has played a large part. . . . open to the millions, its free and fast!!

To expand the Wannabe Florist title, I have set up a Facebook page with the same principles in mind as my blog: to educate, to share and to inspire. The level of information being posted is wonderfully open and giving! I have created and recently revamped the site so that it acts as a sharing platform for florists worldwide. I have said before how crucial it is that florists share information and inspiration with one another to keep this industry alive.

Im thrilled by the positive response the Wannabe Florist Facebook Page is experiencing and would like to take this oppertunity to invite you to take a look and maybe share a pearl of wisedom or two.

Guest Speakers

Today we were visited at college by Philip Wolf ( former Writtle student) and Caroline Marshall - Foster (publisher of Florist & Wholesale Buyer magazine) who both gave talks on the floristry industry and their own personal career journey's.  Both talks were throughly enjoyable and motivating but with a few industry home truths thrown in, such as the need for florists to increase their level of creativty  to compete against the economic downturn and the dreaded supermarkets!! Regarding Supermarkets, Caroline, made a very valid point about Supermarkets not being so much the enemy. They are when it come to price competition perhaps, but the supermarkets have promoted flowering buying to the consumer . . and not just at special occasions but as part of the every day shopping. Food for thought . . .
